Fixing It For Freddy
We were proud to photograph the “Fixing It For Freddy” home renovation project for recovering Sydney security guard, Freddy Taiba.
In September 2013 Freddy Taiba was working as a security guard in Sydney’s CBD when he was the victim of a coward punch attack, leaving him in a coma and facing extensive rehabilitation while supporting his wife and four sons. His plight made news headlines as yet another assault resulting in a terrible outcome for all involved.
Freddy’s (very generous) mates, including Glen Packer, in conjunction with Chris Smith from Sydney’s 2GB radio made a call for volunteers for the 23rd March 2014 to help Freddy out. We heard the call and sent two photographers to record the day and produce a photo DVD keepsake for over 70 volunteers from very different backgrounds who selflessly gave from their areas of expertise for a day in Southern Sydney to help the Taiba family with a “renovation rescue” style home makeover.
We have included a selection from over 1000 photos of the day. It was an absolute pleasure to see Freddy and his wife, Danielle, so moved as a result of the generosity of tradespeople and businesses across Sydney who answered the call.
